Job Description

Contract Sweetcorn Technician and weekend watering(rotating shift) 2026
Starting Pay is $20.00/hr.

This role will work with the Sweetcorn Operations team who provides support to Sweet Corn and Bean breeding teams as well as Pathology. During field season this role will help plant trials, stake trials, take stand counts, thin plots, collect data, and pollinate. Could require day travel to off-site locations. This role will also work in our on-site processing building. During the off-season/winter months this role will help with greenhouse trials including filling trays, planting, watering, inoculating, harvest, and clean up/tear downs. There will also be work to prep for trialing-counting, packeting, and treating seed. All other duties as assigned.
Working with the Genetics Team which is responsible for watering plants during the weekends, holidays, or any site closure emergency days.

Dress Code: Long pants, closed toe shoes, in some areas steel toe boots may be required. Shirt must have sleeves and cover the midriff. Use proper bending, twisting, and lifting techniques. While working outdoors wear light colored clothing and sunscreen, drink water to stay hydrated, always wear proper PPE. Report any unsafe work conditions or injuries immediately. All PPE is provided. PPE may vary by job duty. It may include: safety glasses, gloves, closed toe/heel shoes, sunscreen and lab coat if needed.

Job Qualifications Relevant experience should include:
• Valid driver’s license that complies with Syngenta’s standards.
•Must clear motor vehicle background check, demonstrate and prove safe driving with others, drive others to field in a van when needed( mostly summer months).
• Willingness to learn and work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature.
• Must maintain a clean workstation.
• Attention to detail and accuracy are critical.
• Must be a self-starter with the willingness to work with or without supervision.
• Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Demonstrated ability to get the job done correctly and in a timely manner.
• Possess a proactive and positive team approach to problem resolution.
• Must have the ability to establish strong working relationships with customers, co-workers and management.
• Willing to gain knowledge of company methods and processes.
• Ability to represent Syngenta in a professional manner projecting a Winning Team approach to customer service.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
• May be required to wear various forms of protective equipment (shoes, gloves, protective eyewear, etc.).
• Days per week are M- F some overtime may be required.
• Sitting, standing, walking, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
• Must have the ability to handle physical inventory that requires hand dexterity.
• May work in extreme hot or cold environments; various facilities may have dusty conditions. 
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Weekend Watering rate is a set rate.  Once you complete the task you are done.  Must have cleared background check.

Preferred Experience:
  • Watering & maintaining plants in greenhouse settings
  • Inoculating plants in field and greenhouse
  • Tissue sampling in field and greenhouse
  • Must be able to work well alone or with others
