Job Description

Foundation Seed Assistant

We are hiring for a Foundation Seed Assistant who can support field trial operations and helps coordinate daily work assignments for a team of temporary labor contract workers. This role includes giving clear instructions to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently, and supporting day-to-day horticultural operations. This position is in the area of Bakersfield, CA. 
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate daily assignments for a crew of labor contract workers
  • Provide direction and instructions to temporary workers to complete tasks safely and efficiently
  • Monitor plant conditions, growth stages, and diseases in field trials
  • Report trial status to breeders and/or the Station Manager
  • Take action as needed based on field conditions and direction provided
  • Perform horticultural tasks including (but not limited to):
    • Field preparation
    • Irrigation scheduling
    • Fertilization
    • Cage construction
    • Pesticide / fungicide / herbicide applications
Requirements:
  • HS or equivalent; Associate degree preferred. 
  • 1-3 years of experience research farm experience.
  • Ability to train and work with lab chemicals and apply agro-chemicals. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in office, open field, cages and green house work with temps. close to 100 degrees. 

Pay: $20-$25/hr
Schedule: 7am-3:30pm ( Monday - Fridays )
