Job Summary
Advance Services is hiring a Control Systems Engineer / Automation Engineer in Cedar Rapids, IA to support industrial, manufacturing, and off-highway automation projects. This role is well-suited for engineers who enjoy hands-on PLC programming, control system design, and working directly with customers to deliver practical, real-world automation solutions.

This position offers technical variety, ownership of projects, and the opportunity to see your work move from concept to production.
What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop control systems for industrial and mobile equipment

  • Program, troubleshoot, and support PLC, PC-based, and motion control systems

  • Design or modify electrical control panels and enclosures

  • Work with Rockwell PLC platforms (SLC 500, ControlLogix) and similar systems

  • Support HMI development, PID tuning, and motion control applications

  • Communicate directly with customers to define requirements and project scope

  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians through project execution
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience

  • 2+ years of industrial controls, automation, or system integration experience (or equivalent experience)

  • PLC programming experience (Rockwell preferred)

  • Experience with control panel design and electrical schematics

  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards (NEC, NFPA 70/70E)

  • Familiarity with industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, DeviceNet, CAN, etc.)
Nice-to-Have Experience (not required)

  • UL 508A panel design

  • Motion control, servo, or multi-axis systems

  • HMI development and data acquisition

  • CoDeSys, LabVIEW, or mobile PLC controllers

  • Off-highway, agricultural, or mobile equipment experience

  • Robotics, telematics, or machine vision exposure

  • AutoCAD or similar tools for electrical schematics
