Job Description

A punch press operator's job description typically involves operating and maintaining punch press machines used to cut, shape, and form metal, plastic, or other materials. This role is vital in manufacturing and metal fabrication processes.
Mon-Fri 1st/2nd shifts Pay Rate: $21HR

Here are some of the key duties and responsibilities of a punch press operator:
1. Machine Operation and Setup:

Operating and setting up punch presses: This includes adjusting machine settings, such as stroke length and pressure, and ensuring proper alignment and feed rates.
Loading and unloading materials: Safely placing raw materials onto the machine bed.
Loading programs and raw materials into machines.
Monitoring machine operations and making necessary adjustments.

2. Quality Control:

Inspecting finished parts: Ensuring they meet specifications and quality standards by examining them for defects and measuring dimensions using tools like calipers and micrometers.
Adjusting the press: Making adjustments as needed to meet specifications.
Completing quality checks upon completion of the product.

3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

Performing routine maintenance on the punch press after production runs.
Troubleshooting and repairing machines as needed.
Maintaining records of production and machine maintenance.

4. Safety and Workplace Organization:

Following safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

5. Reading and Interpreting Documentation:

Reading and understanding blueprints, diagrams, and work orders to ensure accurate production.
Reading work orders or production schedules to determine specifications.

6. Physical Requirements:

Punch press operators may need to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs frequently.
They may also need to stand or walk for extended periods.

7. Other Duties:

Prep parts for the next production steps.
Assist machine operators with lifting/placing materials.
Operate other fabrication equipment as needed.
Serve on special project teams.
